Arbor Day is tomorrow, Friday, April 26th. Plant a tree and help our world. The annual City Nature Challenge also starts tomorrow and runs through Monday, April 29th. Download the iNaturalist app, record and share the biodiversity of our city, and discuss your findings with other enthusiasts all over the world.
Our Go Green BK calendar is filled with fun and free/low-cost greentastic events that celebrate and care for our beautiful world. Get free native trees. Join a wellness walk and take a bike tour around Newtown Creek. Learn about oysters, compost, and make painted paper collaged cards. Enjoy birding at Brooklyn Bridge Park, McGolrick Park and Prospect Park. Unwind with like-minded knitters. Enjoy an Earth Day festival, the 40th Annual GreenThumb GrowTogether Conference, and performances of Moliere in the Park: The Miser and The Arrival.
Take the kiddos to a nature scavenger hunt, Arbor Day fun, and an interactive enviro stem workshop (ages 8-12). Enjoy nature themed storytime at MPJ State Park (ages 5 and younger). Plant some native wildflowers and paint with objects found in parks. Learn about seeds and birds that eat them. Check out Cub Scouts Lucky Pack 7 (coed) for your elementary schoolers and Troop 26 (boys) and Troop 1 (girls) for your middle and high schoolers. Troop 26 Scouts are going camping at the West Point Camporee this weekend. Join the fun!
Our outdoor spaces need your love! Roll up your sleeves to help garden and clean up Asser Levy Park, Bushwick Inlet Park, Ecology Park, Gowanus street tree beds, Lincoln Terrace/Arthur S. Somers Park, McCarren Park, and Plumb Beach,. Join 61 Franklin Garden and help our environment with e-waste pop-ups at Bayridge and Park Slope.
Get informed and engaged! Learn how to decarbonize your building. Attend a quarterly North Greenpoint Construction Task Force meeting. Share your thoughts on the Meeker Avenue Plume proposal and Newtown Creek NRDA Plan.
