Our Go Green BK calendar is filled with fun and free/low-cost greentastic events, that celebrate and care for our beautiful world. Go orienteering and painting. Enjoy birding at McGolrick Park, Prospect Park, and Spring Creek Park. Learn about native plants and how to get the most from your greenhouse. Discover the role of the Black community in the NYC oyster industry, the history and plants used in African American cuisine, and cook a traditional dish for Black History Month. Be sustainable by mending your clothes. Unwind with some like-minded knitters.
Take the kiddos to a clay crafts session, a cooking class, an interactive enviro STEM workshop (ages 8-12), and nature education programs. Learn about snowflakes and bird nests. Check out Cub Scouts Lucky Pack 7 (coed) for your elementary schoolers and Troop 26 (boys) and Troop 1 (girls) for your middle and high schoolers. The Cub Scouts are finishing up their pinewood derby cars. Troop 26 Scouts are getting ready to go skiing and busy planning camping trips for the Spring. Join the fun!
Our outdoor spaces need your love! Roll up your sleeves to help garden and clean up Leif Ericson Park, McKinley Park, Shore Park and Parkway, and Sunset Park. Get informed and engaged! Attend a CB1 SLA Review and DCA committee meeting, a community input meeting for Columbus Park. Learn about Bushwick Inlet Park, the NYC Green Fund, NYC Hazard Mitigation Plan, and the four Superfund sites in NYC. Share your thoughts on the MTA’s congestion pricing proposal. How do you feel about paying +$15 to drive into Manhattan from Brooklyn? And what about the impact on parking in Brooklyn as everyone commutes here to catch public transit into Manhattan?
