Our Go Green BK calendar is filled with fun and free/low-cost greentastic events, that celebrate and care for our beautiful world. Join a snowy winter hike and drop by a winter ice sculpture show with live ice carving. Learn to cook a traditional African American dish and take a walk that discusses Brooklyn’s significant abolitionist history for Black History Month. Enjoy birding at McGolrick Park, Prospect Park, and the annual Great Backyard Bird Count. Unwind with some like-minded knitters.
Take the kiddos to a nature themed storytime, a baby-toddler STEM session (ages 0-3), an interactive enviro STEM workshop (ages 8-12), and nature education programs. Shoot some arrows, make a bird feeder, meet animals, and tie dye a tee shirt or handkerchief. Check out Cub Scouts Lucky Pack 7 (coed) for your elementary schoolers and Troop 26 (boys) and Troop 1 (girls) for your middle and high schoolers. The Cub Scouts are painting their pinewood derby cars. Troop 26 Scouts are honing their first aid and firemaking know-how. They're busy planning camping trips for the Spring. Join the fun!
Our outdoor spaces need your love! Roll up your sleeves to help garden and clean up Cooper Park, Leif Ericson Park, Marine Park, McKinley Park, and Sunset Park. Get informed and engaged! Attend a CB1 Cannabis Review meeting, Newtown Creek Community Advisory Group meeting, and NuHart community meeting. Meet community garden leaders from across Brooklyn and solar financing experts and community advocate groups. Attend a Climate Cafe. Share your thoughts on the MTA’s congestion pricing proposal. How do you feel about paying +$15 to drive into Manhattan from Brooklyn? And what about the impact on parking in Brooklyn as everyone commutes here to catch public transit into Manhattan.
